Broiled Salmon with Ginger and Honey

Prepped salmon before going under the broiler.
The salmon has been prepped. It’s ready for the broiler.

Salmon is a great dinner option. It has wonderful vitamins and is heart and kidney healthy. For people with kidney disease three-ounce portions are optimal. This is a real family favorite—easy and flavorful.

Ingredients:

1 piece of fresh salmon (about 1 pound)
Chopped and smashed fresh ginger (Enough to cover the top of the fish)
About 1-2 tablespoons full of honey (We use a honey bear)

Preparation:

  1. Place the salmon, skin side down, on a piece of foil.
  2. Chop a good amount of ginger (1-2 tablespoons full) and smash it with a fork.
  3. Place the ginger evenly over the top of the salmon.
  4. Coat the top of the salmon with honey.
  5. Turn on the broiler.
  6. Place the fish under the broiler.
  7. The top will get very dark but will still need time to cook. At this point it is usually raw in the middle. This will take about 20 minutes.
  8. Turn the oven to bake and bake at 350 degrees until fully cooked (about 10 minutes).
  9. The whole cooking process takes about 20-40 minutes depending on your oven temperature.
  10. Before serving pull the salmon from the skin.
